If dividing, ensure each part has 2-3 renewal buds.
Keep soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water 2-3 times per week as the surface dries.

Best times are spring (April-May) or fall (September-October). Spring planting is preferable as the plant will have time to establish before winter. Summer planting is possible but requires special watering care.
Astilbe prefers partial shade and dappled light. In full sun it can bleach, and foliage becomes rigid. In southern CIS regions, plant in full shade. In the north, morning sun is acceptable if protected from midday heat.
Astilbe requires constant moisture. In summer heat, water daily or every other day. In spring and fall, 2-3 times weekly. Mulch helps retain moisture.
In spring use NPK 10-10-10 or ammonium nitrate. During blooming use phosphate-potassium fertilizers or wood ash. Add organic matter (well-rotted manure, compost) when preparing the planting site.
Astilbe is frost-hardy (to -30°). Mulching with peat to 5-7 cm in fall is sufficient. Leave foliage until spring — it protects the renewal bud. In harsh regions you can add extra protection with dry leaves.
