Frequently asked questions(5)
Seeds are sown in March-April. Seedlings are planted into container or garden in May-June. When growing from cuttings, flowering is possible in the first year. Heavy flowering begins in June-July and lasts until the first frosts.
In summer during flowering, the plant requires abundant watering, often 1-2 times daily in hot weather. Soil should always be moist but not waterlogged. In winter indoors, reduce watering.
In temperate climates, brugmansia does not overwinter in open ground. In September-October, dig up the plant, prune to 1/2-2/3 height and move indoors. Keep at 10-15°C, water rarely. In spring, move back outside after frost danger passes.
Main reasons: insufficient light (needs 6+ hours direct sun), lack of nutrients, cold temperature, excess nitrogen (stimulates foliage at expense of flowers). Ensure good light and regular feeding with potassium and phosphorus.
Propagate by seeds (sow in March-April, germinate in 2-3 weeks) and cuttings (take semi-ripe cuttings 10-15 cm long in spring or summer, root in substrate at 20-25°C). Cuttings root faster and flower earlier.
