Plant dichondra in late spring (May-June) after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed to 15-18°C. In southern regions, planting is possible in April. The plant loves warmth and cannot tolerate cold.
Water 2-3 times a week during the growing season, keeping the soil moist but not wet. In hot weather, daily watering may be necessary. Reduce watering in winter. It prefers constantly moist conditions but without waterlogging.
Dichondra is not frost hardy (zone 9-11). In temperate and northern regions, it will not survive winter in open ground. Either grow it as an annual, dig it up in winter and store indoors (15-18°C), or cover it with a thick layer of mulch in a protected location.
Use a balanced complex fertilizer (10:10:10) once every 2 weeks during the growing season. During flowering, switch to a potassium-rich fertilizer. You can apply liquid foliar fertilizer once a week for more intensive development.
Dichondra is easily propagated in three ways: from seeds (sow seedlings in March-April), from cuttings (cut shoots root in water or moist soil in 2-3 weeks), and by dividing the bush in spring. Cuttings are the fastest way to get new plants.
