    Frequently asked questions(5)

Optimal timing is April-May (spring) or September-October (fall). Spring planting is preferable as it gives the plant time to root before winter. Avoid planting in midsummer and late autumn.

Use a wooden trellis, metal mesh (wire fence), plastic grid, or bamboo poles 2-3 m high. The support must be sturdy as the mature plant will be heavy. Install it at planting time.

During active growth (May-September) water 2-3 times a week; daily in hot weather. Soil should be moist but not wet. In winter, reduce watering to minimum. Check the top soil layer — water when it dries to 2-3 cm depth.

In October-November, perform autumn pruning, removing old and damaged shoots. Gather and tie the vines. After the first frosts, bend to the ground and cover with spunbond in 2-3 layers. Mulch the base area with peat or dry leaves 15-20 cm thick. In severe winters, build a wooden frame and cover with plastic film.

Yes, this is the easiest method. Cut 8-10 cm long pieces from young shoot tips in July-August. Rooting hormones like 'Kornevin' will speed up the process. Place cuttings in sand-peat mixture, cover with plastic and keep warm in diffuse light. Rooting occurs in 3-4 weeks.
