Sow stock flower seedlings in March-April for summer blooming. Seeds germinate in 7-10 days at 18-20°C. Transplant to open ground after last frosts (May). Fall sowing in August-September produces blooms in October-November in warmer regions.
Water regularly, maintaining moderate soil moisture. In hot weather water every 2-3 days, in cooler weather less frequently. Avoid waterlogging which can lead to fungal diseases. For seedlings, it's critical not to allow either drying or water stagnation.
Feed seedlings with liquid universal fertilizer every 2 weeks. After planting in soil, apply complete flower fertilizer at planting. During flowering feed every 2-3 weeks with phosphate-potassium fertilizer to stimulate abundant blooming.
Doubleness of stock flowers depends on variety and genetic factors. Choose special double varieties (e.g., 'Christmas Candles'). Double plants are often sterile, so they're not grown from home seeds. Buy ready seedlings of double varieties from trusted producers.
Cut stems in early morning or evening, immediately place in cold water. Remove lower leaves from stem. Use special nutrient solutions for cut flowers or add a few drops of bleach to water to prevent bacterial growth. With proper care, bouquets last 7-10 days.
