Frequently asked questions(6)
Spring (March-May) for bulbs coming out of winter storage. Fall (September-October) for bulbs dug up in summer. Optimal timing is late April or early September when soil is warm and well-draining.
Planting depth should be 2.5-3 times the bulb's height, typically 10-15 cm. Small bulbs at 8-10 cm, large ones at 15-20 cm. Rule: depth = 3 × bulb height.
Each flower blooms 3-7 days, with a single plant blooming 2-4 weeks depending on variety. Cut flowers can last 1.5-2 weeks in a vase.
No, do not cut leaves immediately after flowering. Leave stems and leaves on the plant until complete dieback (August-September). They nourish the bulb and provide energy for next year's bloom.
Most lily varieties overwinter in soil without protection in temperate zones (3-7). In cold regions (zone 2), cover beds with mulch layer (leaves, sawdust, peat 10-15 cm). Oriental and Asiatic hybrids are more frost-hardy than trumpet lilies.
In most CIS regions, lilies stay in the ground. Dig and store when temperatures drop below -30°C or if soil is waterlogged with high rot risk. Oriental varieties are more demanding for drainage and may require digging.
