Sow seeds indoors in late March-early April for seedlings, or sow directly outdoors in autumn (September-October) for natural stratification. Plant in open ground in May-June after last frost.
Prefers well-drained soils and full sun (partial shade tolerated). Drought tolerant and does not require frequent watering. Soil should be neutral to slightly alkaline (pH 6.0-7.5).
Water once weekly during dry spells. Fertilize monthly with balanced fertilizer. Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms. Apply mulch to the soil.
Perennial flax is hardy to -35°C and overwinters well in open ground without protection in most CIS countries. Cut back stems in autumn and mulch the root zone if young.
Blooming begins in June and continues throughout summer (June-August). Flowers open in the morning and close around noon. Deadhead spent flowers for continuous blooming.
