Plant in spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October). Spring planting is preferable for rooting before winter.
The plant is undemanding, grows in full sun and partial shade. Prefers moist soils, tolerates loams and sands with pH 5.5-7.5.
Water regularly, especially during dry periods (every 2-3 days). The plant loves moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging.
Prune dry shoots in autumn. Mulch the base with 5-7 cm compost layer for winter. In temperate zones protection is not required.
Propagate by seeds and tuft division. Divide in spring (April) or autumn (September), splitting mature tufts into 3-4 parts.
