Propagates by seeds and clump division. Seeds are sown in March-April for seedlings or directly in soil in April-May. Divide clumps in spring (April) or autumn (September-October).
Buttercup is undemanding. Prefers sunny locations and partial shade, grows in any garden soil. Tolerates short-term drought but develops better with moderate moisture.
Perennial buttercup is frost-hardy to -15°C. In winter, mulch the base of the clump with 5-7 cm layer. In severe winters, cover with evergreen branches.
Wild buttercup contains toxic substances, but cultivated ornamental forms have lower toxicity. However, avoid skin contact and do not ingest.
