The leaves contain a very high concentration of oxalic acid, which can be toxic to the kidneys. They only eat the petioles!

By the end of summer, a lot of acid also accumulates in the petioles, they become coarser and become less useful. The plant needs time to recover before winter.

Red-brown spots are ramulariasis. Diseased leaves should be cut off and burned. In the fall, treat with Oxyx.
