Only after the soil has dried out completely: every 2-3 weeks in summer, every 4-6 weeks in winter. Overwatering is the main killer: water trapped in the center of the rosette rots the leaf bases. Water along the edge of the pot.
Bright indirect light is ideal (an east or west windowsill) — it keeps the yellow edge contrasting. The plant tolerates partial shade and low light, but in deep shade the pattern fades and growth nearly stops. Direct southern sun can scorch the leaves in summer.
Only by dividing the rhizome at repotting time — each division needs 1-2 rosettes and a piece of rhizome. Leaf cuttings (5-7 cm sections, dried for a day and set 3-5 cm deep in moist sand) root in 3-6 weeks but produce all-green plants without the edge.
