Frequently asked questions(6)
Sedum is planted in spring (May) or autumn (September–October). Spring planting allows the plant to root well over the summer. Cuttings can be rooted throughout the growing season.
Sedum prefers full sun (6-8 hours per day) for compact growth and vibrant colors. It grows more slowly in partial shade but still does well. Avoid deep shade.
Water moderately once a week during the growing season. Reduce watering during rainy periods and autumn. Golden rule: soil should dry between waterings. Overwatering is more dangerous than drought.
Use complex mineral fertilizer with low nitrogen content (NPK approximately 5:10:10) once every 3-4 weeks during summer. Over-fertilizing with nitrogen makes the bush loose and reduces frost hardiness.
Propagate from seeds (in light, uncovered), from cuttings (cut stems root in sandy mixture for 10-14 days), and by dividing the bush in spring. Cuttings are the easiest method.
Sedum is frost-hardy (down to -30°) and doesn't require protection. In autumn, leaves turn red, stems die back, and new ones grow from roots in spring. In winters without snow, mulching will help protect the roots.
