    How to care

    Transfer

Высаживай на постоянное место с комом земли, корневая шейка на уровне земли, расстояние между деревьями 3-5 м

    Watering

Water regularly twice a week with 10-20 l; in dry weather every other day, avoiding both drying out and waterlogging

    💡Tips
    • Treat the roots with a rooting stimulant before planting
    • Mulch the root zone with a 10 cm layer (wood chips, bark, peat)
    • In the first winter, wrap the crown in burlap or shade netting against February-March sunscald
    • Do not break up the root ball — spruce lives in symbiosis with soil fungi

    Frequently asked questions(5)

In spring (April — early May) or early autumn (September). Spring planting is preferable: the sapling gets a whole season to root before its first winter. Plant only with an intact root ball — bare spruce roots die in the open air within 15-20 minutes.

In the first year — twice a week with 10-20 l per tree, in the second and third years — once a week in dry weather. Watering matters most in the first 5 years while the root system develops. Mature trees are watered only in prolonged drought, though a deep watering in autumn is beneficial.

For the first 5 years, feed in spring and early summer with a special conifer fertilizer — it contains magnesium, which keeps the needles vividly colored. Ordinary high-nitrogen garden fertilizers are unsuitable: they cause soft growth that gets frost-damaged. Mature trees need no feeding.

The main enemies are the bark beetle, spruce sawfly and aphids. In May-June apply a preventive insecticide treatment (e.g. thiamethoxam or deltamethrin products). If needles brown and drop (needle cast, rust), treat with a fungicide: Bordeaux mixture or difenoconazole. Drought-weakened trees are attacked first, so watering is protection too.

Norway spruce is frost-hardy to -45°C and needs no cold protection. Browning needles on the south side in late winter is sunscald: the bright February-March sun desiccates the needles while the roots in frozen ground cannot supply water. Shade young trees with burlap or netting for their first 1-2 winters and give a deep autumn watering.
