Frequently asked questions(5)
Sow seeds in late February–early March for seedlings (for garden planting in May). In short-summer regions, sow earlier (late January). Seedlings are ready for transplanting 45–60 days after sowing.
Day: 20–25°C, night: 15–18°C. Below 10°C growth slows, below 5°C plant may die. Tolerates heat up to 30–35°C maximum, but above that the plant experiences stress.
During vegetation (May–June) — 2–3 times per week. During flowering–fruiting (July–September) water more generously, but avoid water accumulation at the root collar. Optimal to water in morning at the root.
Sucker pruning — removing side shoots that grow in the fork between the main stem and leaf. This directs plant energy to the main stem and fruits, improves ventilation, reduces disease risk. Start when suckers reach 5–10 cm.
Prevention: avoid overcrowding, remove lower leaves, water at the root in the morning, avoid wetting leaves. Treatment: spray with copper-based products (copper sulfate, Oxykhom) from July, especially in wet weather. Remove affected plant parts.
