- •Put a 10-15 cm gravel drainage layer at the bottom of the hole
- •Do not bury the root collar — keep it at soil level
- •Add coarse sand around the rosette

Frequently asked questions(5)
Yucca typically flowers in June-August. Young plants (under 3 years) may not produce flowers — wait until the plant matures. Flowering occurs once per year and lasts 2-3 weeks.
Yucca is very drought-tolerant. Water infrequently, only when the soil is completely dry (in summer once every 2-3 weeks). Overwatering is more dangerous than drought. Winter watering is minimal or absent.
It depends on the species and region. Garden species (Y. filamentosa, Y. gloriosa) tolerate frost down to -15…-20°. In cold-winter regions winter protection is needed: mulch the roots and tie the leaves into a bundle. Protection from moisture matters more than protection from cold.
Yucca prefers well-drained, not overly fertile soil. Sandy, gravelly or rocky soils are ideal. Lighten heavy clay with sand and gravel. Standing water leads to root rot.
Fertilizer is rarely needed. In spring you can apply a complex fertilizer with higher potassium (once per season). On fertile soils feeding can be skipped. Excess nitrogen forces the plant to grow soft tissues, which harms winter survival.
